Dr. Senadeera stated that the decision to issue level three red watch landslide early warning alerts will be based on showers occurring in particular regions. He added that the NBRO is closely monitoring the prevailing showery weather conditions round the clock via its automated rain gauges installed in landslide-prone locations in the Central Hill Country.

However, he also advised people in landslide-prone areas to be vigilant and exercise caution, moving to safe places immediately if the situation worsens.

Fernando also predicted that showers or thundershowers could occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, Central and North-western provinces.

He mentioned that heavy showers above 100 millimetres are likely in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Mannar districts.

Several spells of showers could occur in the Northern Province. Fairly strong gusty winds from 30 to 40 kilometres per hour (kmph) are expected over the island at times.
