Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara told Parliament yesterday that there would be a power tariff reduction from July 1.

The Minister moving the Electricity Amendment Bill for the second reading debate said that the CEB would submit its proposal for electricity tariff revision to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) on Friday (7) or on Monday (10), and the tariff revision would be effective from July 1.

The Minister said if the PUCSL proposed that electricity consumers be given more relief, the CEB was ready to consider it.

Minister Wijesekera said that with the passing of the new amendment Bill the consumers would benefit because a lot of those in the CEB would lose their part time businesses and with the loss of monopoly there would be competitive prices and the benefit would be for the consumers.

[Category: Uncategorized]

Tags:
