Sri Lanka’s hand plucked tea has received warm accolades from global tea fraternity at the Saudi Horeca Exhibition.
The exhibition was hosted by the Chamber of Commerce in Riyadh. It was held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center. Top tea importers in Saudi met Sri Lankan tea exporters at the exhibition.
“They visited Sri Lanka Pavilion at the exhibition and praised the quality of Ceylon tea,” said Sri Lankan Embassy sources in Riyadh.
The Saudi companies in particular hailed that there are absolutely no artificial preservatives or added flavor in Ceylon tea.
Sri Lanka exports around 6 million kilos of Ceylon Tea to the Saudi tea market.
The market share of Ceylon Tea in Saudi Arabia is close to 25 per cent as it stands today. Kenya and India are the other two major players in Saudi Tea market, local tea exporters said.
“The Horeca exhibition this year attracted an impressive body of international visitors,” sources said.
Sri Lankan Ambassodor to Saudi Azmi Thassim led the team of Sri Lankan tea exporters together with Director Promotion of the Tea Board for MENA region, Hasitha De Alwis.
Akbar Brothers LTD, Ceylon Tea Marketing LTD, Expolanka Teas PVT LTD, Ceylon Tenny Teas PVT LTD and Ceylon Tea Land PVT LTD represented the Sri Lankan tea industry att the exhibition.
Trade Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Riyadh, Gayan Rajapakse, coordinated the event.
