The General Amnesty period given to Army, Navy and Air force deserters ends on December 31. Island-wide operations to apprehend the deserters will commence thereafter.
The number of tri-force personnel who had not reported back to work is about 51,000 and of them 42,500 are army deserters. About 4,000 have received their discharge within the amnesty period. Of them, five are officers and 3,289 are in other ranks.
The Army Media Spokesman said the general amnesty period would not be extended after December 31.
Those who receive discharge during the amnesty period are entitled to all the allowances and they would be written off, they have obtained loans less than Rs 10,000. They do not subject to any punishment.
