Justice and Buddha Sasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe on Tuesday said that it was the Consensus Government's responsibility to create a peaceful environment in the country by promoting the values of reconciliation and co-existence among various ethnic groups.
Rajapakshe arrived in Batticaloa to inquire into the problems faced by the people in the Batticloa district and the members of clergy.
He held a discussion with Mangalaramaya temple in Batticaloa Chief Incumbent Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thera.
Rajapakshe said Ven. Sumanarathana thera was of the view that that people in Batticaloa District should be treated equally when solving their problems.
He said that there are no Parliamentarians nor local government representatives in the Batticaloa District to represent the minority Sinhalese community in the district.
Minister Rajapaksa said measures will be taken to promote peace and stability in the district by promoting closer cooperation among communities.
Bodu Bala Sena Organisation General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera also participated.
