Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen yesterday assured the public that no room will be left for a rice shortage in the local market during the forthcoming festive season.
He said adequate rice stocks are maintained in the country without any shortage. These stocks will help the government replenish the market during the upcoming festive season, he said.
The government is committed to protect consumers and will not allow errant traders to exploit consumers.
If any trader tries to earn huge profits by placing unnecessary burdens on consumers during this period, they will be prosecuted,” the minister said.
