Police action against protesters who held ships at hostage

 

Police have begun investigating protestors who held two ships berthed at the Hambantota port hostage by using heavy machinery and gantry cranes to block their movement.

Twelve persons have been identified thus far.

Port workers are protesting the government decision to enter into public-private partnership with a Chinese company, saying they would lose their jobs.

They are asking they be absorbed into the permanent cadre to ensure job security.
