Torrential rains that the Eastern Province experienced recently changed regional climate significantly resulting in many people suffering from severe cough, and fever.

The number of OPD patients has considerably increased and children and the elderly were badly affected. The high temperature in the day time and the heavy dew in the night affect paddy crops and spread pests and illnesses, regional farmers said..

Residents in the Ampara District coastal areas requested Health Department officials to take steps to eradicate fast spreading mosquito breeding grounds caused by the monsoons rains.
