Passengers who travel without tickets on SLTB buses will have to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000, R. M. Jayasekara, a senior official of the SLTB in Kurunegala said today (28).
He said the new move was to motivate passengers to buy tickets when they travel on SLTB buses. He also said the SLTB has decided to dismiss bus conductors who not issue tickets to passengers.
The fine for ticketless bus travel is currently Rs. 250- the fine has not been revised in ten years.
