The Western Provincial Council has planned to cut down the number of vehicles entering Colombo by 50,000, Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya said.
At the moment between 300,000 and 350,000 vehicles enter daily, he said.
Addressing the media in Colombo today he said the programme would be implemented in 2017.
"The support of all other state institutions is required to do this," the Western Province Chief Minister said, adding that he hoped they will not pull out before implementation, as they did while implementing the garbage management programme.
