‘War on Dengue’ in schools

The Health Ministry National Dengue Control Unit will launch an intensive dengue control programme in schools on December 27 and 28 with the support of the Education Ministry to destroy dengue mosquito breeding sites, Health Ministry sources said.

The sources said the school premises will be inspected and fogging will be done to destroy mosquito density.

Special attention will be paid to schools in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle and Kalmunai. The programme is to be implemented on the direction of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

A total of 640 teams including members of armed forces, police, health officers etc will be deployed for inspection.

MOH offices will carry out fogging in school premises. Twenty fogging machines will be air lifted to Sri Lanka on Friday from Germany. Another 105 fogging machines will arrive in January and the rest of the machines will arrive later, sources said.
