“All of us are bond with the responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding where we live. If we try to point finger at each other and neglect our duty we all are fail. Effects of improper means of disposing garbage has become one of themost complicated issues of the country at present.With the approval of the President, Prime Minister and the Cabinet, my Ministry holds a greater responsibility on this matter. We see it as a National need and my Ministry is fully dedicated in making this effort a success. I request everyone to join with us without considering the political ideology as this is a matter which concerns all of us.”
Minister said this at a sudden visit to observe the process of collecting garbage at Colombo district today morning. It was identified that some areas still do not dispose garbage in a proper manner. Minister Musthapha directed the Police to take stern legal action against those who dispose garbage in improper manner.
Minister Musthapha took steps to solve the identified issues during the visit. It was observed that the sanitary labourers who were collecting garbage were not wearing proper uniforms, gloves or face masks. It was also observed that it has been difficult for the garbage collectors to collect garbage as the public had not segregated their garbage. Minister Musthapha emphasized that it is necessary for the sanitary labourers to maintain good health.He directed related officers to organize health service programmes for them. Officers from the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Sri Lankan Army and Sri Lankan Police attended the event.
