Bhikkhus collect stationery for flood victims

Buddhists monks in the Southern Province conducted a pindapatha charika, recently, to collect stationery for 17,000 schoolchildren displaced due to the recent floods in the North and East.

The event was organised under the suggestion of the Education Ministry Pirivena Education Branch Director-General Wijitha Welagedara and under the leadership of Matara District Kruthyadikari Parivenadhipathi Association President Ven. Vitiyala Indrarathana Thera and Association Secretary Ven. Hakmana Gnanavimala Thera.

Nearly 300 monks visited 18 schools in Matara, last Tuesday, while another group of monks visited 10 schools in Galle, earlier this month.

Stationery and other equipment worth nearly Rs.1 million have been collected; they are being packed to be distributed among the schoolchildren in aforementioned provinces. Ven. Vitiyala Indarathana Thera said that the items would be distributed soon. He said,
