Minister Hashim said the people who took over government reins through the back door had to move away along the same route they came in. It was the present Government which eradicated Mahinda Rajapaksa’s fear of the electric chair and enabled him to visit any country of his choice without any trepidation.

He said the government had not still formulated any new Constitution what had been tabled in parliament were a set of proposals made by a panel of experts and others for discussion by parliamentarians as members of the Constitutional Council. The UNP had categorically stated that it would only support and condone a constitution which ensured the pre-eminent position given to Buddhism by article nine of the present Constitution.
