Youth fined Rs. 6,000 for traffic offence

Panadura Chief Magistrate Chandena Liyanage fined a youth Rs. 6,000 for breaching a traffic rule.

Counsel Aruna Deepal appearing for the accused told court that his client is a student of the Panadura Royal College. A certificate was submitted to court issued by its principal stating that the accused is a student of the school. The lawyer appealed the magistrate to amend the punishment since it would ruin the student’s future.

The magistrate asked the accused if he is still attending the school. He said ‘no’. Then the magistrate refused the application made by the lawyer and rejected the certificate and fined him.
