Police yesterday requested the public to call hotline ‘116’ to provide information on suspicious vehicles, persons or events.
The Police Media Division said that all police stations in Colombo have been advised to be on high alert about a lorry and van suspected to be carrying explosives. Police also requested motor vehicle drivers to display their contact numbers on the windscreen whenever they leave their vehicles parked on the roadside. The Police Media Division said the request is to avoid confusion.
Police and bomb disposal units are on alert on vehicles unattended for long periods and suspicious packages. “Leaving the contact number and name will help us to locate the owners,” he said.
