Notorious underworld leader and Drug kingpin Samarasinghe Arachchige Madush Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush had been deported from Dubai this morning and he was taken into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department upon his arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport for further investigations.
A Dubai court rejected a request made by Makandure Madush who was wanted in connection with a large number of murders and large scale robberies, has been accused of international drug smuggling not to deport him to Sri Lanka while Sri Lanka's Supreme Court rejected a fundamental Rights petition filed by a relative of Madush to prevent his arrest when he arrived in the country.
Drug kingpin Makandure Madush was under the custody of the Dubai authorities after being arrested at a drug-fuelled party thrown by him in a Dubai hotel,Along with him, 30 Sri Lankans including underworld figures and celebrities such as singer Amal Perera and his son Nadimal Perera, actor Ryan Van Rooyen were also arrested in Dubai.
The Dubai authorities had deported the arrestees to Sri Lanka at several occasions and arrested by the CID when they arrives at the Airport. Some have been remanded as per court orders while others were released after recording statements.
