Sri Lanka’s 100% local dairy manufacturer, Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd., is set to launch a range of new products this year which are currently under research and development. Using only 100% locally sourced dairy milk with no added preservatives, flavours and/or colouring these products will be great additions to Pelwatte’s already extensive dairy products portfolio. The highly skilled research and development team is currently testing these products at the Pelwatte Dairy state-of-the-art factory complex in Buttala. “We have identified the need for several product ranges in the market. Although the dairy industry is quite competitive, Pelwatte is determined to introduce 100% locally produced, nutritious and affordable dairy products to our consumers. This is another step in our attempt to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in milk”, said Pelwatte Dairy’s Managing Director Akmal Wickramanayake. The range of new products will include a premium ice-cream range like Blueberry, Butterscotch, Coconut with Cardamom, and Coffee with Cardamom. Natural fruit puree and flavours are being used to develop these flavours. Of the new range Blueberry and Butterscotch have already been introduced to the market. A range of easy-to-use Drinking Yoghurt in flavours like Mango, Vanilla, Strawberry and Woodapple have also been developed with Mango and Vanilla being available in stores currently and the other two to follow. Pelwatte is also developing its own sterilized and pasteurized flavoured milk in Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry. Further additions to the product portfolio includes Curd, Butter Cubes (10g portions), Garlic Butter, Butter Milk and Cultured Butter Milk, and Fresh Cream. “Apart from domestic use, we are also looking to expand our products to benefit home bakers, confectioners, restaurants and hotels with their dairy product needs by creating bulk packages of our butter, milk powder, liquid milk and other”, Wickramanayake added.
