A group of lawyers of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) yesterday handed over a letter to the BASL Secretary calling for a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Association to discuss the country’s prevailing situation. The letter with 217 signatures was handed over to BASL Secretary Kaushalya Nawaratne.
The letter demands the BASL to pay attention to several proposals including the banning of the Thawheed Jamaath and other extremist organizations, preventing foreign refugees being given refuge in Sri Lanka and regulating educational institutions which spread extremist ideologies.
