There has been a sharp drop in the price of rice, recently, with the price of 1kg of nadu being between Rs.78 and Rs.79 and the price of 1kg of samba being between Rs.82 and Rs.85.
Businessmen in Matale had said that prices were to drop even further within the next two to three weeks.
Farmers are selling paddy at Rs.42 per kilogram of nadu and Rs.45 per kilogram of samba.
