A Police Inspector and a Police Sergeant attached to the Thiniyawala Police station were yesterday sentenced to four-years and seven-years Rigorous Imprisonment respectively by the Colombo High Court after they were found guilty to soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000 from a person selling wild boar meat in 2006.
High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga further ordered the two accused to pay a fine of Rs.40,000 each on four counts.
The Director General of Investigate Allegations Against Bribery and Corruption had filed indictments against two policemen for soliciting and accepting the bribe, not to take legal action over an offence of selling wild boar meat on or around December 11, 2006.
