Three were killed and five injured in Anuradhapura-Medawachchiya road, the police media unit said.
The accident occurred last night.
The accident occurred when a luxury private bus traveling towards Jaffna had collided head-on with a lorry traveling towards Dambulla.
The deceased have been identified as three children as well.
The injured have been admitted to Anuradhapura Hospital.
The driver of the lorry had fled following the incident.
Medawachchiya Police is conducting further investigations.
