Panadura Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya fined of Rs 37,000 on a private bus driver and ordered to pay Rs 360,000 as compensation to six injured persons. He was also sentenced him to six months imprisonment suspended for five years.
The driver Gayan Upali of Mathugama pleaded guilty to driving his vehicle in a reckless and negligent manner knocking against another private coach proceeding on Galle Road, greviously injurying six passengers.
Police Constable Udaya Kumara (7185) of the Wadduwa Traffic Police said two private coaches plying on the Galle Road in Wadduwa in opposite directions collided injurying six passengers greviously. All injured were hospitalised and their medical certificates were produced before Court.
The lawyer appearing for the injured also made his submissions.
The Additional Magistrate who accepted the submissions of the lawyer and the police fined of Rs 37,000 on driver Gayan Upali and ordered him to pay Rs. 360,000 as compensations to six injured passengers and sentenced the accused driver to six months imprisonment and suspended the sentence for five years.
