A technical snag has forced the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to defer the much-awaited launch of the first Indian unmanned mission that aimed to soft land on the surface of the moon.
The Rs 978-crore mission was scheduled to be launched at 2.51 am on Monday. The mission was called off 56 minutes before the scheduled launch time.
It is being speculated that a fuel leakage in a valve is the reason for the deferment of the launch, but it needs to be verified.
An ISRO spokesman said at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) Sriharikota, “A technical snag was observed in the launch vehicle system at T minus 56 minutes. As a measure of abundant precaution # Chandrayaan-2 launch has been called off for today, The revised launch date will be announced later.”
