Panadura acting Magistrate Piyadasa Alankara remanded Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha member Upendra Silva for fleeing from an accident site after causing injuries to a motorcyclist.
He was arrested by a police party following the accident that occurred on the Central Road at Thalpitiya North causing heavy damages to a motorcyclist on July 12.
The alleged driver Upendra Silva had fled after causing the accident and had hid himself when two policemen on mobile duty went to arrest him after the accident. He was found to be inebriated and had not obeyed the law.
The injured motorcyclist had made a statement to police that this was the third occasion that the PS member made attempted to cause him harm by knocking him down when he was riding a motorcycle on a test run on the road.
A breathlyser test was conducted and the councillor was later produced before the Panadura DMO. He was admitted to Hospital where Panadura acting Magistrate Piyadasa Alankara visited the Hospital ward with P.C.Udayakumara of the Wadduwa Traffic Branch and recorded the statements of the member and the injured motorcyclist. The acting Magistrate remanded the Councillor till today (15).
