Provincial hospital equipment upgraded

The Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry provided endoscopy machines and several sets of cancer treatment medical equipment for several hospitals recently.

Twenty endoscopy machines worth Rs. 200 million were provided to the Kurunegala and Batticaloa Teaching Hospitals. Moneragala, Trincomale, Kalutara, Galgamuwa, Negambo, Gampaha, Puttlam, Nikaweratiya, Karawanella, Dambadeniya, Point Pedro, Vavuniya, Matale, Horana, Kuliyapiya, and Awissawella Hospitals also received medical equipment.

Several endoscopy machines were handed over by Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathne at the Biological Medical Engineering Auditorium recently. Minister Dr. Senarathne said that this was the first time that a bulk of endoscopy machines worth Rs. 200 millions were provided on one occasion. Forty seven more endoscopy units will be provided in the next two months, he said.

Sets of cancer treatment medical equipment worth Rs. 600 million were also distributed at the Colombo Blood Transfusion Institute Auditorium.

Minister Dr. Senarathne said here that medical facilities at every hospital are upgraded for cancer patients. Only the Maharagama, Kandy and Karapitiya Hospitals have been equipped with such facilities earlier.
