Sajith holds record 152 campaign rallies - Tissa

NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa will have addressed voters in 152 electoral divisions by November 13 creating an electoral campaign record, former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said yesterday.

Addressing a press briefing at the NDF election operations centre at Vauxhall Street, Attanayake noted that Minister Premadasa has attended 140 public meetings by yesterday targeting grassroots voters. “People are interested in a new leader like Sajith Premadasa who stands for the needs of unsophisticated masses in Sri Lanka,” he added.

He said the SLPP faction representing Gotabaya Rajapaksa was trying to violate the franchise rights of the Northern community by injecting fear. “The SLPP is engaging in acts of sabotage to reduce the number of people who will vote. Minister Eran Wickremaratne has already lodged a complaint with the Elections Commission and the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV). I also request citizens not to refrain from going to the polling station whatever the party you may vote,” he said.

Attanayake said that currently the public service is inefficient and the common public has to undergo many difficulties. Sajith Premadasa in his manifesto mentions that the State service will be revamped not only with physical resources but also with the attitudes needed for a better service. And also Passport, Identity card and driving licence issuance which are lethargic to function will be improved. The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment will get a new face under Sajith Premadasa. ETF, EPF and pensioners salaries will be easily accessed without delay and the Examinations Department along with the Education Ministry will be upgraded. The State Service will easily be accessible by the common public.

He added that in the electronic media Sajith Premadasa receives less coverage compared to the other candidates. “We complained about this issue to the Elections Commission and to the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, yet we did not receive a satisfactory answer,” he added.
