A grama niladharini in Abhayapura, Ridimaliyadda, arrested in connection with a case of bribery, was remanded by Mahiyangana Magistrate A.A. Priyankara Laxman on December 17, pending trial on January 27.
B.B. Kusumawati, a grama niladharini, was taken into custody by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in Abhayapura, Ridimaliyadda, off Mahiyangana, on December 16. She had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from an individual in return for a permit for timber transportation.
After a preliminary inquiry held by CIABOC officials, she was produced by the police in the Mahiyangana Magistrate’s Court on December 17.
