The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has directed all mobile operators to include and opt-out unsubscribe option to all unsolicited promotional messages.
“The directive shall enable consumers the right to discontinue receiving such unsolicited messages,” the TRCSL said.
The Opt-out option would be offered free of charge.
Speaking on the directive TRCSL Director General Oshada Senanayake had observed that “Rights to privacy of consumers is an imperative and a positive step in achieving consensus of all mobile operators in implementing a mechanism of resolving the issue of unsolicited messages.”
