An end to land disputes in Kurunegala, Puttalam this year

All land disputes in both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North-Western Province (NWP) would be resolved within this year, North-Western Province Land Commissioner Chandrasena Aloka Bandara told the Daily News yesterday (24).

He said as per the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, steps would be taken to resolve all land disputes in the area. He added that about 275,000 land disputes are now heaped at 46 Divisional Secretariat (DS) offices in the NWP for decades unsolved.

He also said real owners of plots of land are not granted with legal title deeds. There are about 30 DS divisions in the Kurunegala District and about 16 DS divisions in the Puttalam District with such land disputes.

He said 123 officials are deployed while mobile services programmes are being held at the electoral level to expedite the process of resolving land disputes.
