A campaign for increasing forest density among the water reserve of Dikbedda in the Gurutalawa area off Welimada, Badulla commenced recently.
A community organization, Dikbedda Paaneeya Jala Samithiya organized the event.
It is assisted by two government agencies in Welimada, viz. the Forest Conservation Department office for the Welimada range and the office of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in Welimada.
A committee of local people for the protection of the ‘reserve’ against fire and vandalism was formed as part of the campaign.
