The report of the High Posts Committee of the 8th Parliament of Sri Lanka was tabled by its Chair and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday (20).
Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena proposed that the report be printed.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, presenting the report observed that the last time such a report of the High Posts Committee tabled in Parliament was 40 years ago, in 1980.
“As its Chair, I am pleased for being able to present this report. I would like to extend my gratitude to all the Members of Parliament in this Committee and the Parliament staff members for working efficiently to execute all the responsibilities of the Committee,” Speaker Jayasuriya said.
The Speaker also said that the Committee on High Posts at four sittings has inquired closing up to 290 persons whose names were proposed for high posts.
He also said that all heads appointed as heads of foreign diplomats were all summoned before the Committee prior to officially communicating their appointments.
