None of the Sri Lankan students brought back from Wuhan City, China have been identified as infected with the new Coronavirus, Diyathalawa Army Base Hospital officials informed Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
Army Hospital officials and doctors had briefed the minister about the latest situation when she contacted them over the phone on Sunday (2) morning.
The group of 32-students arrived in the country on Saturday (1) by a special SriLankan Airlines flight sent to China on Friday (31) and are currently housed at the Diyathalawa Army Base Hospital.
“The students have been provided with all facilities within the base,” Army Hospital officials also told the minister.
Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference, Health Minister Wanniarachchi on Saturday said that the process of bringing back the Sri Lankan students from Wuhan was expedited due to the close relationship President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have with the Republic of China. Sri Lanka was the fourth country to receive permission from China to enter Wuhan City and bring the students back.
The minister thanked everyone who was involved in and supported the endeavour.
She also said the government has been able to achieve the challenge of controlling the spread of the Coronavirus within the country due to the teamwork by various groups. SriLankan Airlines flight UL 1422 carrying the Lankan students from Wuhan landed at the Mattala Airport and they were brought to Diyathalawa under special security for quarantine with the support of the Sri Lanka Army and the Air Force.
