The Rs.300 million debt relief package will be revised in order to include businessmen in the tourism industry. A Cabinet proposal in that connection was made by Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
Ranatunga has pointed out to the Cabinet of Ministers that the businessmen who are engaged in the tourism industry are not covered by the circulars issued in relation to the said relief package for the revival of small and medium enterprises adding the banks and other financial institutions are reluctant to lend to the businessmen in the tourism industry as this is not clearly stated in the circular.
Accordingly, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have advised that the circulars and instructions in the relevant circulars be revised if there are any such issues.
With the Government’s decision to revise such matters, the small and medium scale businessmen in the tourism sector will also be benefited from Rs 300 million debt relief package.
Minister Ranatunga said businessmen in the industry had made a request with regards to the matter and then he made the arrangements to present the Cabinet proposal with the intention of restoring the tourism industry.
