Former Minister of Child and Women Affairs of the Northern Provincial Council Anandi Sashidaran has left for Switzerland to participate in the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council(UNHRC) being held in Geneva.
As reported to the Daily News, she is expected to make a statment during her participation in the HRC session.
Sashidaran is the wife of the LTTE’s political head of the Trincomalee District, Velayutham Sasitharan alias Elilan.
Meanwhile, the spouse of murdered Jaffna District Parliamentarian of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Nadarajah Raviraj, Sashikala Raviraj will contest the upcoming General Election from the Jaffna District, it was reported. Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Leader Mavai Senathirajah said the party has decided to give her the opportunity to contest in support of its proposal to increase the party’s women representation in Parliament. Nadarajah Raviraj was a Member of Parliament for Jaffna District from 2001 until he was shot dead on November 10, 2006 in Colombo.
