All possible measures taken to contain further spread of COVID-19

The Health Services Director General Consultant Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that it is impossible to make predictions on whether or not clusters of Covid-19 infections could erupt in parts of the country at this point.

He said, however, that all measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Director General said that the identification of infected persons among sailors and soldiers is in its last stage, but added that their family members and those who had associated closely with them could be infected. The health authorities suspect that there could be others from this group testing positive.

He noted that they are watchful about such persons, but added that it is highly unlikely that these clusters will further expand.

Dr. Jasinghe added that however, it is imperative to keep a close watch on the families and those who associated closely with the navy personnel as they could be infected, adding that those suspected cases have been sent for quarantine already.

However, he said that it is impossible to predict whether or not clusters of cases may or may not surface at this point of time, but every possible measure has been taken to control the virus from spreading. He said that a main factor in the control of the virus depends on how best the people adhere to the health guidelines issued by the health authorities and how well the public follows them.
