An Ex Councillor of the Panadura Urban Council was remanded by the Panadura Magistrate Amila Ariyasena till May 04 over the alleged obstruction of duties of a Grama Seva Niladhari and a Samurdhi officer who were distributing the Government grant of Rs.5,000 among the families affected by the Covid 19 outbreak in Panadura area.
The magistrate issued the order following a B report submitted to Court by Panadura South Police Crime Branch yesterday over the incident that occurred at Samudra Mawatha Panadura on Monday.
When the Panadura South Police Chief Inspector M S Kumarasena with policemen visited the scene the suspect Mahesh Fernando was involved in a heated argument with the Gramasevaka and obstructed their lawful duties.
He was arrested immediately and when he was produced before the AJMO Panadura Base Hospital he complained of a heart ailment and got admitted to the Hospital Ward No 6.
The Police submitted a B report with full details regarding the incident to Court. Investigations were conducted by Inspector Rohan Silva OIC of the Panadura South Police.
