Habeas Corpus petitions filed on behalf of Lawyer Hejaz Hisbullah fixed for May 5

Two Habeas Corpus petitions filed on behalf of Attorney-at-law Hejaz Hisbullah, who has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over an allegation that he had closely linked with the Easter Sunday suicide bombers were fixed for May 5 by Court of Appeal.

When the petitions came up before Court of Appeal Justice Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Justice Devika Abeyratne, the petitioners were directed to serve notices on the Attorney General regarding the these Habeas Corpus petitions.

The petitions had been filed by his father, Naina Hizbullah and his wife through Attorney-at-Law Gowry Shangary Thavarasha naming Acting IGP Chandana Wickremaratne, the CID Director and the Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioners are seeking an order directing the respondents to release and discharge corpus Hejaz Hisbullah from detention.

The petitioners are further seeking an order directing the respondents to permit Attorneys-at-Law access to obtain instructions from the corpus in confidence for the purpose of prosecuting his application and or any other proceedings before a court of law.
