General Secretary of Democratic United National Front (DUNF) Ariyawansa Dissanayake today filed a Fundamental Rights petition in Supreme Court seeking an order directing the Election Commission from taking steps including allocation of preference numbers to candidates contesting upcoming General Election, until final determination of this petition.
The petitioner is further seeking an Interim Order directing the Director General of Health Services to submit an affidavit to the Election Commission to confirm that there is satisfactory control of COVID-19 pandemic good enough to take the poll without any risk.
The petitioner has cited Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, its members President’s Counsel N.J. Abeysekara and Prof.S. Rathnajeevan H.Hoole, Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundara, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and the Attorney General as the respondents.
