Co-cabinet spokesman, Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardane yesterday pledged to complete the construction of proposed national university in Kotagala before the first death anniversary of late Minister Arumugan Thondaman as a fulfillment of his dream.
Expressing his deepest condolence over the demise of Ceylon Worker’s Congress Leader and Cabinet Minister Arumugan Thondaman at the cabinet media briefing, Minister Gunawardane said that late Minister Thondaman requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to set up a university in Nuwara-Eliya.
“After conducting several rounds of ministerial level meetings with Minister Thondaman, it was decided to set up three universities in Nuwara Eliya District.
Accordingly it was was proposed to set up a special chartered university in Sandathenna, another university to offer a bio systems technology degree in Ambewela and a national university in Kotagala,” the Minister said.
He said the Cabinet paper will be submitted next week.
He further said that late Minister Thondaman worked tirelessly and efficiently for the welfare of Tamil community especially plantation workers.
