The man found dead at Independence Square this morning has been identified as Rajeewa Jayaweera, a former Senior Manager at SriLanka Airlines.
He is also a well-known freelance writer attached to the Colombo Telegraph Website, where he has written articles on a wide range of topics including corruption at Sri Lankan Airlines.
Rajeewa Jayaweera (64) was found dead at Independence Square, this morning around 6.45 am.
Police suspect he may have committed suicide by shooting himself.
“We have not ruled out any other causes. We are currently awaiting the post mortem report,” the Police spokesman said.
Police said a letter and a pistol was found near the body.
Rajeewa Jayaweera was an active Twitter user and his Twitter account has been disabled now. It’s not clear when his account was disabled.
