Twenty-eight thousand six hundred and sixty-eight public servants have qualified for postal voting in the Digamadulla area for the upcoming General Election, sources from the Ampara Assistant Elections Commissioner’s Office said. All qualified persons have to cast their postal votes between July 13 and 17, they added.
According to the Ampara Assistant Elections Commissioner’s Office, nearly 30,481 public servants had applied for postal voting, but 1,813 of them have been rejected. Those who have qualified belong to the Ampara, Sammanthurai, Kalmunai, and Pottuvil electorates.
Sources from the Ampara Assistant Elections Commissioner’s Office also said that 540 candidates from 20 registered political parties and 34 independent groups are contesting in Digamadulla, and seven of them are to be elected to Parliament.
According to the 2019 electoral register, 513,979 persons were eligible to vote in Digamadulla. There will be 525 polling booths this time in the district.
