United National Party Deputy Leader Ravi Karunanayake yesterday said the individual who was defeated by 1.5 million votes at the last Presidential Election is trying to mislead the public by giving false promises.
He said that this person contested the last presidential election by boasting that he had enormous support at grassroot level.
Karunanayake said that the organizers whose electoral seats received a humiliating defeat at the last presidential election have joined the Samagi Jana Balavegaya.
“The organisers who managed to win their electorates at the last presidential are with the UNP and they are strengthening the party too,”he said.
Addressing a press conference at the UNP Kandy office, Karunanayake said the UNP is not an ambalama or a resting place where anyone can come and go at will.
“Those who are challenging the party are still using the party’s colour to mislead the people,”he said.
He said that the SJB’s election pledge to grant an allowance to every low income family is not feasible as 80 per cent of government’s income is needed to implement this programme.
