Colombo district Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Kanishka Senanayake yesterday said almost all members of the UNP are with the SJB led by Sajith Premadasa.
“We can see the migration of UNP members to the SJB during the past few months. More than 90 per cent of UNPers are with Sajith”. The UNP voter base in the Colombo district is with the SJB, he said.
Senanayake said the SJB is the only party that can effectively face challenges ahead of the country with the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that the country should have a new approach to revive the economy as the COVID-19 outbreak has made an impact on almost all sectors.
“Our exports market has collapsed due to less demand and the tourism industry has been badly affected following the impact of the virus outbreak”, he said.
Senanayake said that hundreds and hundreds of expatriate workers are returning to the country from many countries and no viable program has been implemented to create more employment avenues within the country.
Senanayake was speaking at an interaction with the journalists in Colombo on Wednesday evening. He added that his party under the leadership of Sajith Premadasa is capable in addressing all these woes by adopting a comprehensive work plan. He stressed the need of creating more avenues for youth to enter into politics to change the present political culture.
“Youth take lead in many countries in Europe and the other regions in the world.
Time has come for the youth to play a pivotal role shaping the political landscape in the country,” he said.
He said that many benefits granted by the 100 day government to the people have been suspended by the Present administration.
The nutrition pack given to pregnant mothers has been stopped. However my mother Rosy Senanayake as Colombo Mayoress is providing a nutrition pack to pregnant mothers of low income families in the city ”, he said.
He said that her mother is with the United National Party as she was elected Mayor of Colombo from the UNP.
