Strengthen ‘Vision of Prosperity’ at forthcoming election – Sumeda

Former Minister Sumedha G Jayasena in conversation with voters in Moneragala.

Correct decision should be made by the people at the forthcoming General Election to strengthen the Vision of Prosperity of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former Minister Sumedha G Jayasena said. Priority should be given to face future challenges rather than expecting the government to asphalting rural roads, obtaining jobs or land and fertiliser subsidy, she said.

She was addressing several propaganda rallies in Wellawaya, Sevanagala and Moneragala.

“A strong government should be set up to face various global challenges that threaten the sovereignty of the country and rebuild the economy which has slowed down during the past Good Governance government,” she said.

‘‘Politicians extended conventional pledges in the past but those have outdated today. The era where political ploys deceived the voters has also gone. The people today need to build the country under the correct vision of a capable leader,’’ former minister said.

“The coronavirus outbreak posed an unprecedented challenge before the President. He saved the Sri Lankans from the deadly virus, while it is anguishing the entire world,” she said;.

“The country has now faced the challenge of recovering the economy. The Central Bank has forecast that the economic growth rate would dip to 1.5 per cent. To face this challenge successfully, there should be a strong government. The 19th Amendment has created a crisis between the Executive and the Legislature.

“The consequences of such a crisis could be clearly seen if anyone looks back at the 5-year regime of the past Good Government,” she said.

She said that residents of the Moneragala District have undergone many difficulties including unemployment. “They have no avenues to generate sufficient income. This situation will intensify in the near future. However, I will rebuild Wellassa after August 5,” she said.

She said that she has been representing the Moneragala District in Parliament for the last three decades. “Two thirds of my life has dedicated to upgrading the lives of the people in the Moneragala District.

“I lost so many things in life because of politics. But I will make my full commitment until the end of my life to elevate the people of Moneragala,’’ former minister Sumedha Jayasena said.
