Two former Chief Ministers of the North Western Province have assured their support for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate of the Kurunegala District Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the forthcoming General Election 2020.
Speaking at a media conference at the Maha Gedera Holiday Resort in Kurunegala on last Friday, the two former Chief Ministers, Athula Wijesinghe and Dharmasiri Dassanayake, told that they will support Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming General Election to form a parliament with a higher majority as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa needs a strong parliament to carry out his vision for the country.
Dassanayake said that a Prime Minister will be elected from Kurunegala this time.
“Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leader Maithripala Sirisena and SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara are contesting under the ‘Flower Bud’. We, too, have decided to support the SLPP as we are independent in deciding our option,” Athula Wijesinghe said.
