The Democratic People’s Front (DPF) has made a decision to expel its member Marimuthu Pillai Vigneswaran from the Kandy Municipal Council (MC). However, various public institutions have called on the party leadership to reconsider the decision.
Kandy MC Member Parliamentarian M.C. Vigneswaran said that he has been supporting party leader Mano Ganesan since 2010 and had supported the party in the 2013 Provincial Council and 2015 Parliamentary Elections.
He said that he had contested for the DPF as its Kandy MC group leader in 2018, in which he was given a seat on a proportional basis.
“They expelled me from the party without any investigation, saying that I did not support the party.
Therefore, various organisations including the Kandy Business Community are protesting against the move. Kandy residents said that Vigneswaran is the right person to get the highest number of votes for the DPF. The Tamil speaking community in Kandy expects his service further and therefore, he called on the party leadership to re-consider the issue.
