The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by Education Minister Prof.G.L. Peiris to implement a series of Educational prorammes with the assistance of government and private television and broadcasting channels in collaboration with the National lnstitute of Education and the State Ministry of Educational Reforms, Open Universities and Distant Education Promotion.
The Cabinet of Ministers previously granted their approval to allow the ‘Eye Channel’ and ‘Nethra Channel’ to continue teaching activities utilising telecasting and broadcasting media under the distant education methodology considering the disruption in continuing of teaching activities in schools due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic condition.
It has been perceived that precise optional distant education methodologies need to be applied for the continuation of educational activities under the circumstances in which commencement of schools is not practical after the COVID-19 pandemic condition emerged once again in the country.
Therefore, it has been designed to broadcast television educational programmes from Grade 3 to 13 in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
