PM appoints Douglas to Parliament Council

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda has been appointed to the Parliamentary Council as the Prime Minister’s appointee.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena granted the approval to the nomination made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday.

In accordance with the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, the composition of the council has changed.

The Parliamentary Council comprises the Prime Minister, the Speaker, the Opposition Leader, the Prime Minister’s appointee, the Speaker’s appointee and Opposition Leader’s appointee.

Accordingly, Minister Devananda has been appointed to the council by the Prime Minister.

He is the Leader of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party.
