Two KMC employees in bribery net

Bribery Commission officers arrested two employees of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) for accepting a bribe of Rs.150,000 from a businessman of the area last morning.

According to the Director (Investigations) of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) SSP Padmini Weerasuriya, the raid was conducted around 11.30 a.m. at a car park of a private hospital in Kandy. The businessman had lodged a complaint on this regard to the CIABOC on Monday (4) through the 1954 hotline. The suspects had requested this bribe to expedite documentary work relating to the fixing of a digital notice board near the Katugastota Bridge by the businessman, which had already been approved by the Municipal Council to proceed. CIABOC will present the suspects before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court today.
